How Long ???
Have you ever been in a situation where a job was lingering in your sight, you knew it was coming but daren't even think about it. It's like your mind shields you from its impending impact!!!
As creative minds, we find ourselves analysing things in a broader approach to others. Our collective job in a kitchen is to cook and manage service, so timing is essential to aid a steady ship and maintain the most amazing standards at every opportunity.
Scenarios come to test our abilities to be proactive as the season, service, suppliers even those long tasks come to test our stamina and mental approach to our daily existence.
This past week our cells have been touched by something that has no doubt impacted all of us during our daily workload.
We bumped into a warrior the other day, and although as usual immaculately smart dressed and ready to perform - we could see the strain their brain was under as the workload hid away was eating at their cells.
It's easy to start a task and have a set period to perform the function but when this overruns, shrapnel can soon be found firing towards you as you are then battling to perform other functions as well as the job you first started.
This can often be mentally challenging, and operation pushback can often be found to appear, but as creative culinarians we must always respect time, respect hard work - which comes in different disguises, but most of all respect our fellow colleagues and help them embrace whatever challenge lay in front of them.
As a chef, we challenge the season to perform to the best of our abilities the mental health of our team is imperative and we must unite in times of over and beyond heavy workload to help share the load.
This helpful approach may not always be accepted by others, but by offering and respecting the challenge they hold will have no doubt touched and relieved some tension at that given time.
Remain creative, inspired and most all passionate at all times even when the going gets extremely tough and time is slipping away !!!
Thoughts For The Week Ahead –
Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement - remain strong and focussed even when those endless tasks come to test our senses.
